Recently, I have begun experimenting with printmaking techniques on glass. Many glass artists have successfully transferred beautiful and detailed imagery onto flat glass via the fusing, reheat and rollup process. However, my goal is to develop methods for transferring images to glass through direct pickup during the glass blowing process. There are some challenges to say the least. My inspiration is William Morris–a glass blowing master and an absolute artist in his ability to apply detailed designs, patterns and stencils to glass “in the heat of the moment”. I’ve managed some interesting effects with simple glass powder stencils but am researching other ways of achieving higher res and layered imagery.
